Oban Saints GG crashed to a second consecutive 5 - 1 home reverse at Oban High School last Saturday where visitors Antonine kept up their pursuit of the Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Division Three title.

The Saints GG Management team of Donald Black and Robert Johnstone are masters at coping with enforced personnel changes and somehow managed to name a sixteen man squad despite missing seven players from their last outing against Duncanrig.

Saints lined up with Murdo MacKenzie in goal behind a back four of Ollie Sharp, Szymon Chmielecki, Alan Buchanan and Lewis Campbell. Across the midfield were Martin Bonar, Daniel Sloss and Aidan Campbell with a front three of Aaron McKay, Lewis Buchanan and Kieran Hendry. On the substitutes bench were Jamie Anderson, Jamie Easton, Adam Gilmovitch, Ryan Hill and Keiron Lopez.

Attacking the Dalintart end in the first half visitors Antonine made a strong start and, after Lewis Campbell had made a goal-line clearance from a corner kick, Saints couldn't clear the danger and afforded the Antonine central defender who had remained up-field a free header which Murdo MacKenzie could only claw onto his left hand post and into the net.

Aaron McKay drew Saints level in the fifth minute with a good finish across the keeper and into the bottom corner before narrowly failing to tee-up Keiran Hendry at the far post three minutes later after another strong run on the right.

McKay got away on the right again three minutes later and squared to Kieran Hendry up in support who snatched a first time effort wide of target.

Antonine got their noses in front again in the eleventh minute when a cross from the left picked out Aidan Kearns who slammed home from close range.

Kearns completed his brace two minutes later with another close range finish after the Saints defence was again opened up too easily.

Saints rallied after the Antonine quick fire double and Daniel Sloss and Alan Buchanan had efforts saved before Aidan Campbell had a near post flick from an Aaron McKay right wing corner deflected inches wide.

Two goals down at the second half Saints huffed and puffed their way through the second half posing little threat to the Antonine defence who remained comfortable throughout.

The Saints defence had keeper Murdo MacKenzie to thank on a number of occasions and the Saints star performer on the day would have hoped for a little more support when Ashton Russell was first on the scene to poke home the loose ball after another good stop from a powerful sixty second minute shot.

Substitutes Jamie Anderson, Jamie Easton and Keiron Lopez were given second half minutes but the changes did nothing to change the pattern of the game and the visitors ran out comfortable winners with Ashton Russell rounding off the scoring in the eighty first minute with a perfectly placed drilled shot from eighteen yards which beat Murdo MacKenzie low to his right.

Saints GG will hope for a change in fortunes this coming Saturday when they travel to Colquhoun Park, Bearsden to face Rannoch in a Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Divison Three clash.
