The few hardy souls who braved the elements to stay on at Oban High School after Oban Saints Scottish Amateur Cup defeat to Cupar Hearts last Saturday were rewarded with an entertaining Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Division Three encounter between Oban Saints GG and Clydebank AFC.

With the wind in their favour the Bankies had by far the better of the early exchanges and Saints were indebted to keeper Murdo MacKenzie for a string of excellent saves to keep the score line blank.

Two goals in as many minutes gave the hosts a huge boost against the run of play and the elements. Always with a keen eye for goal Skipper Martin Bonar turned well in the Bankies box and fired a left foot volley high into the net to give Saints a fourteenth minute lead. Ninety seconds later Ollie Sharp added a second after linking well with Stuart Twort.

MacKenzie made yet another fine save low down to his left with his opposite number in the Bankies goal also getting in on the act to deny Stuart Twort just before the half-time whistle.

A sensational left foot lob from Oran Bryce got Saints off to a flying start just two minutes into the second half. Just as they had done in the first half Saints struck again less than two minutes later with Stuart Twort racing through and tucking the ball underneath the advancing Bankies keeper.

The visitors pulled one back in the fifty third minute but Saints remained firmly in control and Ollie Sharp completed his brace in the fifty seventh minute following in on a Alan Buchanan free-kick from the right to cushion the ball into the net from close range.

A point blank save from the Bankies keeper denied Ollie Sharp a hat-trick from a Lewis Buchanan in-swinging corner kick however substitute Szymon Chmiekecki was on hand to bundle the ball over the line to round off the scoring in the seventy first minute.

Saints GG are on the road this coming Saturday when they travel to Bishopbriggs to face Glasgow Harp in a Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Division Three encounter.
